As the people of old marvelled from a distance the spire of a great cathedral so did we as we approached Croke Park for the first of our 3 dates with our true mistress. Only this was no cock atop a wind vain directing the shepherd from storm but rather the mirror ball set to guide the masses toward Croke Park and into a frenzy of musical worship. By the second song we were truly lifted toward the heavens as the vocal section of No line On The Horizon chorals higher and higher. You are now aboard the space ship 360 bound for planet U2. And its only once your inside with head craned back to the heavens that you realise the true genius of this thing - a stage , a screen, an illusion. As you arrive the claw is intimidating and you know this is something big, there’s a carnival atmosphere as the circus has come to town only this time there’s no joker or clowns. It’s the future and rock n' roll has changed again. Forever!
U2 360 is amazing and without giving too much away it will lift you to another state of spiritual being - if only for a short while as you gaze toward the heavens imagining this stage, this place embarking on a journey to another planet of existence where all the people of the world can be as one in a time and place of peace and love. And there is a certain kind of intimacy created by the unrestricted view that the claw allows. From every seat the backdrop for the band is the people who love them most, no screens speakers or stage. Just the band and the audience. What an awesome illusion. What a marvellous realisation of a dream that was 2 years in the making by Willie Williams and U2.
Congratulations and see you soon.
